23rd April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with three patients during our visit. They told us they were very satisfied with the service provided. Comments included, “I can get an appointment whenever I need one” and “I can arrange an appointment with the dentist and the hygienist on the same day, which is very convenient.”

The practice provided people with information to help them make decisions about their treatment. Leaflets and posters provided guidance about maintaining good oral health and the type of dental treatments available.

The practice kept up to date and detailed records of the care given to patients.

The practice had procedures in place to keep patients safe. Staff regularly checked the emergency drugs and equipment and we found the drugs to be in date on the day of our visit. Staff told us they had training in dealing with medical emergencies and training records confirmed this.

Training records showed that all staff had received infection control training. Staff and people we spoke with confirmed that protective aprons, gloves and masks were worn during assessment and treatment in accordance with infection control procedures.

Records showed that professional registration was up to date for staff and we saw evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.

The practice sought feedback from people using the service and we saw patient questionnaires completed over the last 12 months. These results indicated that patients were positive in their view of the service.
