12th April 2013 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with six people who used the service, two managers and the practice staff. People told us that they were involved in the planning of their care. One person told us, “They cared about the problem. They listened and knew what I was talking about…we discussed the underlying problem. We discussed my options and I now have a prescription to stop the pain”. People were assessed, and received treatment and oral health advice according to their individual needs. People told us they were satisfied with the service. One said, “The dentist is really nice and always explains everything to me. I am so happy with the treatment that they provide”. Staff knew how to keep vulnerable people safe. A dental nurse told us, “There is a safeguarding folder in the office with the instructions to follow if we suspect any abuse”. The practice was clean and hygienic and met all government guidance for infection control and decontamination. A dental nurse commented, “The level of infection control here is really good”. The provider had systems for gathering people’s views about the service and for dealing with any complaints. They also had systems to ensure the practice was safe. The provider kept all records in good order, and these were accurate and accessible to people who needed them.
