11th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with two people who used this service. They told us they were happy with the quality of care provided and that they would recommend it. They told us they felt involved in treatment decisions and that these were explained to them. During our visit we observed staff were friendly to people who used the service and appeared to know them well. There also appeared to be a positive relationship amongst staff including the principle dentist. Staff told us they enjoyed working at the practice.

We looked at the dental care records of four people and saw evidence that their oral health needs had been assessed and treatment was planned in relation to the needs identified. We saw evidence that written treatment plans were provided which were signed by the person receiving treatment. We also saw signed evidence by people using the service of consent to treatment such as consent to sedation.

We looked around the premises and saw dental equipment including emergency equipment was available and appropriately maintained. Staff were familiar with the procedures in infection prevention and control, especially the decontamination of dental equipment.

We looked at staff personnel files and saw the practice had appropriate procedures in place for the recruitment of new staff. We also saw from the staff files that staff were appropriately qualified and received training for their role.
