6th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with three people who use the service and four staff, including a dentist, dental nurse, hygienist and receptionist. People told us that they were able to get an appointment when they wanted one, and if they needed to be seen in an emergency they were asked to come to the service and were seen on the day. Comments we received from people included "I am very confident of their skills” and “staff are very friendly", "there is a lovely atmosphere here" and "the dentist explains what is needed to be done and always explains the different treatment options”.

We observed that people who use the service and the staff had developed positive relationships with each other and there was a relaxed atmosphere within the practice.

People were given information about their treatment and were able to discuss and choose which treatment option they preferred.

There was equipment in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies, however some of the medicines available had passed their expiry date and were not appropriate for use with people.

The service had infection control procedures in place, however there were some areas where people could be put at risk of cross infection.
