3rd April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

The inspection was arranged with the staff at the practice one day in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak with staff working at the practice, as well as people registered there.

During the inspection we spoke with the business manager, the dentist, a dental nurse and a receptionist. We reviewed four dental records, two staff files and the practice's policies and procedures. We also spoke with five people that used the service.

We saw that people who used the service were involved in the planning of their treatment through discussion with the dentist in a relaxed atmosphere. People told us they were informed of the proposed treatment, any risks and the cost prior to giving verbal consent to treatment.

We saw that the consultations were recorded in each person’s file. People told us that at each visit the dentist checked if there had been any changes in their health, which may need to be taken into account whilst planning their treatment.

We asked people that used the service about the environment and they told us that the surgery was always clean and tidy. Some people we spoke with had been with the surgery for over ten years.

One person told us: “I feel incredibly safe here. I have recommended the practice to lots of friends. I just can’t fault it”.

We saw that there were arrangements in place to monitor the quality of care and patient experience. This meant that patients received a consistent high standard of treatment.
