24th January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

One person we spoke to told us the dentist had explained the treatment they needed and was very clear about the fees they would have to pay for each treatment. They said they had been given options and only made a decision once the dentist had answered all their questions.

We saw that the practice had comprehensive records for each patient’s care. These included medical histories, an assessment of care, treatment plan, reviews of treatment and details of any changes to treatment plans

There was an up to date safeguarding policy in place and it contained a clear procedure for staff to follow and details of agencies to contact if abuse was suspected.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The practice had an infection control policy in place and all staff we spoke with were able to tell us the main areas it covered.

One person waiting for treatment told us “the first thing I look for is cleanliness when I go to a dentist and I found this one to be very clean. It feels more hygienic.”

We saw that there were adequate staff recruitment processes in place which included interviewing, checking qualifications and immunisations. References and criminal records checks were carried out before staff started work.

One person we spoke to told us they knew how to complain but would tell the dentist if they were unhappy with any aspect of their treatment.
