2nd December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

To conduct this inspection we spoke to three people, observed three consultations and spoke to four staff. We also looked at various documents required for the running of the service.

People received care and treatment that met their needs. People we spoke to told us they were aware of their treatment plans. They told us they trusted their dentist and did not want to go anywhere else for treatment. One person told us about their initial contact that made them feel this was a good service to come to; they said: “I think it’s friendly, first impressions count.”

People could be confident that their safety was maintained. Vulnerable adults and children who may be at risk of abuse could be confident that staff had the skills to recognise abuse (or the risk of abuse) and report it. One person told us: “I can’t bear to see any other dentist, I trust him.”

The risk of infection was managed appropriately with the arrangements that were in place in the practice. People told us and we observed a practice that was clean and well maintained. Staff told us they had enough personal protective equipment to contribute to reduce the spread of infection.

The practice undertook activities to monitor the quality of the service it provided. People told us they were asked for their opinions. We saw that suggestions were acted on. Staff felt able to make suggestions and information was shared in staff meetings. One staff member said: “I make suggestions to the manager.” One person told us “Yes I have given feedback via the website.” This demonstrated that the provider conducted audits to ensure that any shortfalls in the service could be addressed. They also listened and acted on feedback.
