29th July 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made
Our last inspection of 4 December 2013 found that improvements were needed to the safety of the environment because there was no fire risk assessment and no records to confirm the smoke detector was tested regularly. While staff said they felt supported, a formal process for supervision and annual appraisals was not in place. The provider wrote to us and told us that they would make the required improvements by 30 May 2014. We carried out a desktop review and viewed records sent to us by the provider. We found that the provider had made improvements and had a fire risk assessment and ensured the smoke alarm was regularly tested. Staff had annual appraisals and records confirmed that regular supervision was provided.
4th December 2013 - During a routine inspection
People told us that they were satisfied with the services provided and said "the dentist tells me about treatment options and costs" and "the dentist explains things to me". People said their privacy was respected. Staff were happy to be working at the surgery. They told us they had the necessary checks before they started work and generally had the training and support they needed to do their job. Staff said one of the things they did well was to "make patients feel comfortable" and "we follow infection control guidelines and keep the place clean". We saw that the treatment room, decontamination room and waiting area were clean and tidy. Reception staff made sure health information was updated before people saw the dentist. We saw that improvements were needed to the safety of the environment because there was no fire alarm system. While staff said they felt supported, a formal process for supervision and annual appraisals were not in place.
