10th October 2013 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with four people who had recently received dental treatment. Each person was complimentary and positive about their experience as a patient. Comments included "Very thorough", "gentle practice" and "treated with empathy and consideration at all times." They told us they were given a written treatment plan which included full details of the treatment options open to them. "Everything is always explained in great detail, I never feel under any pressure" was one comment. People told us they did not have any problems in making appointments at a time convenient to them. One person told us; "How impressed" they had been with the response to a dental emergency they experienced. "It really was most exceptional service." We saw there were policies and procedures in place which were being followed to help prevent or reduce the risk and spread of infection. Equipment was checked, maintained and serviced to ensure it was safe and effective. We saw checks had been carried out on nurses and dentists to confirm they were registered with the General Dental Council. When we spoke with dentists and dental staff they were able to give details of the professional development training they undertook to maintain their professional registration. This confirmed their qualifications and skills had been maintained appropriately and were up to date. People we spoke with confirmed they were invited to comment formally on the service. We saw a short comment form was readily available and there was also a patient satisfaction questionnaire which was provided to people. This showed the provider took steps to ask people who used the service for their views about their care and treatment.
