15th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five people attending appointments at the service. People told us that they were happy with the standard of dental care and treatment they received. They also told us that they had confidence in the staff's knowledge and abilities. One person described the dentist as, “Really good.” Two other people described the service as, “Quite good.”

We saw that the service had robust procedures in place to safeguard the welfare of pupils attending the service.

With their permission we accompanied two adults during their consultation and treatment. Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and staff acted in accordance with their wishes.

We also observed the interaction between staff and both adults and pupils who used the service when they arrived for their appointments and left the service. We saw that the staff interacted with people in a friendly, respectful and professional manner. One person told us that they always found the staff to be, “Really friendly.”

We saw that arrangements were in place to ensure people had access to routine and emergency dental care within a timely manner.

People told us that the waiting and treatment areas were always clean and tidy. This was confirmed in what we saw during our inspection.

People had their comments and complaints listened to and acted on, without the fear that they would be discriminated against for making a complaint.
