When we visited Quedgeley House dental practice we spoke to the registered manager, the practice manager, the nurse trainer, a dental nurse, a dentist and three patients. We observed how reception staff communicated with patients in the waiting area and the practice's decontamination room procedures. We also spoke to two patients on the telephone about their dental care.

Patients told us that the dentist had always asked about their medical history at every visit and explained their treatment to them before they signed a treatment consent form. We looked at treatment plans and the information that had been given to patients about procedures, for example dental implants. Computerised treatment plans had been recorded that detailed each visit and also alerted clinicians to any health related concerns.

We spoke to six patients they told us, "the best dentist I have ever been to", "good opening times", "explanations from the dentist were good", "the staff are very friendly" and "it was wonderful, they have given me my confidence back and spent time reassuring me". One person had concerns but was uncertain about raising them. We asked the manager to contact them.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk of infection and clinical staff knew about the decontamination procedures. The staff were trained and records were kept of their continuing professional development
