22nd September 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made
When we inspected Peachdent Dental Practice in February 2014 we found that the provider was not meeting this essential standard due to the risks of infection arising from poor maintenance of the flooring and the ceiling. When we inspected the practice again on 22 September 2014 we found that brand new flooring had been fitted and a stained ceiling tile had been replaced. The practice was clean and hygienic.
10th February 2014 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with five people who used the service. They told us that they had no difficulty in making an appointment to see the dentist. One person told us, "When I had an emergency it was easy. They fitted me in." One person told us, "The dentist explains the treatment options. They tell me what they want to do and I say yes or no." People told us that they were very happy with the treatment they received. One person described the service as, "...very good." We found areas where the standard of cleanliness was not adequate. We saw that there was no coving between the floor and the walls and cupboards in either of the two treatment rooms. Dirt and dust had accumulated in these gaps. The dentist told us that they did not have a documented plan as to how the service was to progress to the best practice standards recommended by the Department of Health, as required by CQC code of practice. We saw that the service had an annual appraisal system for the dental nurse and the practice manager. The record showed that they were involved in the process and both had signed their appraisal records. We noted that the majority of comments made during a recent survey had been very positive and there had been no suggestions for improvement given. The comments made included, "No suggestion because you cannot improve on the excellent service you provide." The practice manager told us that there was no documented risk assessment for any areas of the practice.
