25th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

As part of this inspection we spoke with the practice manager, an orthodontist, three dentists, a lead dental nurse, a lead receptionist and two dental nurses. We also spoke on the telephone with two people that used the service and the parents of 12 children that used the service .

People were complimentary about the care and treatment they and their family members (where applicable) received and told us they were given enough information about their treatment options. One person told us, “X (the dentist) is great. They explain as they go along. They explain what they are going to do and the next stage of treatment. X always advises us of the best course of treatment”.

We saw that the practice was clean and well organised and that staff had a good understanding of infection control procedures. We saw that there were arrangements in place to ensure that equipment was kept clean and ready for use.

Staff were suitably qualified and were supported by the provider to maintain their continuous professional development (CPD). In addition to this staff received training on how to recognise signs of abuse, action they should take if they suspected abuse and who to contact.

There were arrangements for monitoring the quality of the service and people who used the practice were encouraged to provide feedback about the care and treatment they received. This meant that the provider actively encouraged feedback and used it to influence the way care was provided.
