2nd October 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

At our last inspection on 7 May 2013 we found that the service did not have sufficient systems in place. There was a lack of systems in relation to safeguarding people who used the service from abuse, cleanliness and infection control, requirements relating to workers and assessing and monitoring the quality of the service. The provider sent us an action plan stating what action they would take to achieve compliance.

At our inspection on 2 October 2013, we saw that all the actions stated on the plan they provided had been completed.

We saw from staff files we looked at, and staff confirmed that they had attended safeguarding vulnerable adults training. Through discussion, staff were able to demonstrate an improved level of awareness in relation to safeguarding people from the potential risk of abuse.

The service had implemented a system to ensure daily infection control checks were recorded.

We looked at three staff files and saw that each person had the appropriate information on file.

We saw that the service had sought the views of people who used the service. A survey had been used to do this and the responses had been collated so that they could be acted upon.

During our inspection we looked at three people's files and saw that these included the appropriate information. We spoke with three people who used the service and all comments received were positive. One person told us, "The dentists are very gentle."

We inspected the services compliance with regards to safeguarding and found that there were no systems in place to protect people who used the service from abuse.

We looked at how the service managed cleanliness and infection control and we identified that there were areas in need of improvement.

We looked at the provider’s recruitment procedures but were unable to view any staff files on the day of inspection. The provider told us, "I keep them at home."

We found that the provider did not take account of people's views about the way the service was run and also found that there were no systems in place to monitor the management and quality of the service provided to people.
