4th March 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During this inspection we spoke with nursing and auxiliary staff from all departments. We spoke with patients attending the minor injury unit and those receiving in patient care. At the time of the inspection there were no patients receiving day surgery.

The patients we spoke with were very happy with the care and treatment they received at the hospital. Comments included; “Everything has been very good, I am very impressed,” “The care here has been excellent” and “The word that comes to mind is outstanding.”

Throughout the inspection we observed interactions between staff and patients were kind and respectful. Patients using the hospital told us they were always treated with respect.

All staff received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children. Staff we spoke with in all areas of the hospital were aware of what action to take if they had any concerns about a patient or their family.

Staff we spoke with and observed were happy and competent in their roles. All said they felt well supported by their teams and their line managers.

Without exception all the patients we spoke with were complimentary about the staff at the hospital. Comments included; “The staff certainly know what they are doing” and “Staff are excellent and always smiling.”

There was information about the Trust’s complaints policy throughout the hospital. People were able to make complaints through the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) or directly to the Trust.
