21st August 2012 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with five people who were registered as patients with Market Street Dental Practice. People told us that they were happy with the service provided. They felt their dignity was maintained and their privacy protected. For example people told us that staff dealt with situations regarding finance or health in private. They said they were encouraged to ask questions and felt staff had the time to answer their questions. People who used the service told us that they were provided with good information both about the treatments and the cost of the different treatments. They said staff were most helpful and made people feel at ease. Comments from people who used the service included: “Staff are aware of the need for confidentiality especially in respect of health issues”, “Staff carry out their duties in a relaxed manner”, "Staff always remember our names , which makes us feel special”. People told us that at the initial visit they were consulted about what treatment they required. They said that they were required to give full medical details prior to any treatment being carried out. They said that they were given detailed information about any risks or side effects they may experience if surgery was undertaken. One person said they were partially sighted and had difficulty reading information. However they were provided with clear details about their treatment by staff to make sure it was presented in large print. Other comments included: “Staff are friendly, efficient and reassuring”, “Dentists always explain what the process involves and involve us in the assessment to find out what we want, and “Staff tell you things in a way you can understand”. People also told us that the clinic was comfortable and accommodating and that appointments were flexible to meet their needs. People told us they felt safe and reassured whilst receiving treatment at the dental practice. Comments included: “I bring my children here as I feel it is a very well run practice”, “I was asked about any medical issues to make sure the dentist is aware of any issues”. People told us that the premises were clean and well maintained to include the toilet areas.
