20th June 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We last inspected Lowedges Dental Care on the 16th January 2014 and made compliance actions because we found the provider had failed to maintain the premises to an appropriate standard.

During our inspection on the 20th June 2014 the provider was able to provide us with evidence which demonstrated they had made all the necessary improvements to maintain safe premises.

The receptionist told us they were ‘proud’ of the building now and happy to welcome patients. We spoke with two patients who told us the practice was always clean and tidy.

16th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five patients who were attending the practice for check ups or treatment. Patients told us that the dentist explained all the procedures and treatments to them and respected their decisions about their treatment and care. One patient commented: “one of the best dentists I have been to because he explains what treatment I can have”.

Patients were also very satisfied with the care, support and treatment they had received. Their comments included: “the dentists are brilliant with children”, "without a doubt I would recommend the dentist, they are fantastic" and “they (the staff) have put me at ease, I was terrified about coming to the dentist”.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

We found the provider had not taken steps to provide care in an environment that was adequately maintained.

All staff spoken with were clear about their responsibilities and had the relevant qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to carry out their role.

We saw that the provider had an appropriate system in place for gathering, recording and evaluating information about the quality and safety of care the practice provided.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.
