7th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five patients who were using the service at the time of our visit. They told us they were happy with the quality of service offered. They told us staff were friendly and treated them with respect. One person said, “I have been coming here for over 20 years and I think the practice is excellent, superb.” Another person said, "I have a phobia of dentists but here I feel comfortable. They put me at ease. I have confidence in what they do."

Patients we spoke with told us they were given information about different treatment options and the fees involved. We viewed seven patient records and found these contained appropriate information regarding previous examinations and treatments. We saw evidence that patient’s medical history was checked at each visit. This ensured that dentists were aware of patient’s medical conditions that could be affected by dental treatments.

The practice was clean, hygienic and had effective systems in place to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infection. The practice had hygiene and infection control guidance which was routinely followed by staff.

Staff told us they felt supported by management. We saw staff were appraised annually. Staff undertook a range of training so they had up to date knowledge and skills to deliver effective care and treatment safely.

Patients we spoke with were happy with the care provided and had no complaints. The practice’s complaints procedure was clearly displayed on the reception desk.
