9th July 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Before patients received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We looked at 11 patient records and found that where people had undergone a course of treatment they signed consent forms.

Patients told us they were happy with their care and were treated respectfully. They said that the dentist always discussed treatment options with them and that they understood the costs of each course of treatment. Patients said the dentist “explains everything perfectly and gives me options” and “I think he’s very thorough”.

The practice had a policy in place on safeguarding for both children and adults. Staff understood the principles of safeguarding and could describe the different forms of abuse for adults and children. They told us what they would do if they suspected abuse.

There were systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment and they told us that the practice and staff looked clean when they visited.

Risks to the health, safety and welfare of patients who used the service were effectively managed.

Patients were not made fully aware of the complaints system because there was insufficient information on how to make a complaint at the practice.
