22nd April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with six people who had appointments at the practice on the day of our inspection. They all told us that they thought staff were well trained and treated them with respect. Three people had received dental treatment from the practice and they all told us that the standard of the care was good, and that treatment had been explained to them to their satisfaction. People told us that they understood any cost implications prior to dental work being undertaken. One person said, "The dentist I see is professional and listens to me. I feel able to make informed decisions about my dental care." Another person told us, "This new building is extremely clean. I like the fact that, as a wheelchair user, I can access the whole of the building, not just certain areas."

Staff demonstrated that they understood the implications of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and that care was offered to everyone in an inclusive way. Staff demonstrated a proactive approach to ensuring that diversity was respected within the practice.

Infection control procedures were followed. The new building was purpose built with best practice infection control in mind. This included a separate decontamination area with 'clean' and 'dirty' areas clearly identified to reduce the risk of cross contamination. We saw that cleaning equipment was serviced and monitored. Staff were trained in infection control.

We saw evidence that staff had received ongoing professional development and supervision.
