26th October 2012 - During a routine inspection
Five patients told us that they were always asked to give signed consent before receiving treatment. They told us that they were given sufficient information to make informed choices about their treatment. The five patients spoke positively about the service they received. They said, “Staff listen to me and they afford me respect" and "There is nothing they could do better. I am completely satisfied with the service I receive here." Patients' records were held securely and had been kept up to date. The electronic record system included a tracking process to ensure that patients were contacted when they were due for check ups and ongoing treatment. A patient told us that the practice was good at slotting people in for emergency appointments. Another person said, "I am here for a check up today. About three months ago I needed an extraction. The dentist told me what my treatment options were and the costs before I was asked to sign the consent form. I am very happy with the way things are done here." All staff working for the practice had been trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse. Two of the staff confidently described the action they would take if they suspected a patient might be at risk of abuse. Staff had received training that was appropriate to their roles and qualified staff had undertaken training to meet their ongoing professional development and maintain their registration with the General Dental Council.
