4th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five patients who attended the centre for treatment, we spoke with two relatives, three radiographers, the dosemetrist and the lead physicist to help us assess whether the service provided was caring, responsive, safe and well led.

Patients told us they received full information about the proposed treatment before they were asked to give their consent. This meant their consent was informed. One patient told us, "I felt quite well informed before I started the treatment, I had lots of leaflets and I had to sign the consent form before treatment began."

Patients were protected against the risk of receiving unsafe treatment as their care was planned and responsive to their needs.

We found the equipment at the centre was safe for use, checked and serviced at the correct intervals and complied with legal requirements.

The staff were supported to provide care and treatment to high professional standards. One patient said, "The staff are very competent, they are professional, helpful and responsive."

Patients were asked for their views and these were acted upon with a view to improving the service and the patient experience. The systems in place to identify, assess and manage risks were effective and protected patients from the risks associated with unsafe treatment.
