Background
Dr Simone Small - Edgwarebury Lane is located in the London Borough of Barnet and provides NHS and private dental treatment to both adults and children. The premises are on the ground and first floor and consist of four treatment rooms, a reception area and a decontamination room. The practice is open Monday 8:30 - 6:00, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm and Wednesday 9:00am – 8:00pm.
The staff consists of the principal dentists, three associate dentists, two dental hygienists, three dental nurse and two trainee dental nurses.
The principal dentist is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as an individual ‘registered person’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the practice is run.
We reviewed 44 CQC comment cards, the practice patient satisfaction survey, NHS Friends and Family test and spoke with two patients. Patients were positive about the service. They were complimentary about the friendly and caring attitude of the staff.
The inspection took place over one day and was carried out by a CQC inspector and a dental specialist advisor.

![]() We spoke with some patients during our inspection visit, and considered the findings of the service’s recent patient survey. Patients were very positive about the treatment they had received. Treatment was described for instance as ‘excellent’. People felt that the dentists knew what treatment was best for them, which showed confidence in being provided with effective treatment. Patients said that treatment was explained to them in a way they understood and they were clear about the fees in advance. Everyone felt that they were able to ask as many questions as they wanted, in order to know enough about the treatment planned. Patients said that they were treated well, for instance, that staff were ‘very polite’. They said that the practice was kept clean. People felt the service to be safe, and had confidence in dentists’ skills.
