27th January 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made
When we visited this practice on 26 April 2013 we found the registered person was not providing and maintaining a clean and appropriate environment to facilitate the prevention and control of infection. We found there were inadequate systems in place to manage and monitor the prevention and control of infection. We asked the provider to make improvements. We went back on this visit to see whether improvements had been made. We did not speak to any patients during this visit. Instead we spoke with the principal dentist, the practice manager, and the senior dental nurse. During our visit we found that improvements had been made to reduce the risk and spread of infection within the dental practice.
26th April 2013 - During a routine inspection
During the visit, we spoke with the principal dentist, the practice manager, a dental nurse and the receptionist. The manager and receptionist were also qualified dental nurses. In the patient records examined we saw the dentists always discussed treatment options and any associated costs with patients. Patients always gave written or verbal consent prior to receiving any treatment. Staff used protective equipment such as gloves and masks and patients wore eye protectors and an apron during treatments. We saw that parts of the premises were not well maintained and some non-clinical areas were not clean. The provider told us that refurbishment work was planned, but they needed to replace the rewiring before this could commence. The practice staff we spoke with told us Carr Wood House Dental Surgery was a good place to work; they received appropriate training for their role and felt well-supported. They also felt confident the service provided to patients was good. This was confirmed by the comments we saw in the recent patient survey. Ninety seven percent of the 100 patients surveyed said they would recommend the surgery to others. Comments from patients completing the survey included:- “No need for any improvement” “Keep up the good work” “Text reminder is a brilliant idea” “Sometimes it is difficult to get in touch with the practice” “The answer phone picks up more often that not” “Perhaps the waiting room could be a little warmer in winter”
