31st July 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We carried out this inspection to check that the required improvements to the service, which we identified in April 2013 had been made so as to minimise the risks to patients of unsafe or unsuitable care or treatment.

We visited Cambridge Dental Practice in July 2014. At this time we found that the required improvements to the service had been made.

We saw that patients views about the care and treatment they received were sought and acted upon where areas for improvement were identified. A summary of the findings from the most recent patient survey, which was carried out in May 2014 was displayed in the waiting area.

There were arrangements for testing the effectiveness of the cleaning and infection control procedures. An audit had been conducted in May 2014 using a recognised audit tool. Where areas for improvements had been identified these had been addressed.

Medicines and equipment used to treat patients in the event of medical emergencies were regularly checked to ensure that there were sufficient supplies that were in date and fit for use.

Patients records were regularly checked to ensure that they contained all of the relevant information about each person's care, treatment and the dental health checks.

During our visit we found that there were appropriate arrangements to protect patients from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because the services provided were monitored and improved where required.

15th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five people who told us that that they were very happy with the care and treatment that they received from dentists and nurses. People said they did not have any complaints or concerns, that staff treated them well and that treatments were always explained to them in a way that they could understand. Comments included, “The dentist gave me a detailed explanation of my treatment.” “The dentist asked me if I had any questions…There was two way communication between us.” “Staff are very friendly.” “It was clean and tidy.”

We looked at five people’s records which detailed dental assessments and treatments offered to patients.

Staff were trained and skilled to carry out their work and to protect people from the risk of abuse.

The practice was clean and there were systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infections.

The provider did not have adequate systems in place to assess, monitor and improve the service.
