4th February 2019 - During a routine inspection
We carried out this announced inspection on 4 February 2019 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We planned the inspection to check whether the registered provider was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations. The inspection was led by a CQC inspector who was supported by a specialist dental adviser.
To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:
• Is it safe?
• Is it effective?
• Is it caring?
• Is it responsive to people’s needs?
• Is it well-led?
These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

Background
Bupa Park Road Bingley is based near Bingley town centre and provides mainly private dental treatment to adults with some NHS treatment for children.
There is level access for people who use wheelchairs and those with pushchairs. Car parking spaces are available in a nearby car park and the street outside the practice.
The dental team includes four dentists, six dental nurses, one dental hygienist, one receptionist and a practice manager. The practice has four treatment rooms.
The practice is owned by a company and as a condition of registration must have a person registered with the Care Quality Commission as the registered manager. Registered managers have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations about how the practice is run. The registered manager at Bupa Park Road Bingley is the practice manager.
On the day of inspection, we collected two CQC comment cards filled in by patients.
During the inspection we spoke with two dentists, two dental nurses, one receptionist, the regional clinical support and the practice manager. We looked at practice policies and procedures and other records about how the service is managed.
The practice is open:
Monday and Wednesday 8am to 5:30pm, Tuesday 8am to 6:30pm, Thursday 8am to 7:00pm and Friday 8am to 1pm.

We spoke with four people who used the service. At the time of our inspection there was no one available to speak with us in person due to them receiving treatment. We therefore telephoned patients after the inspection to obtain peoples views about the service. We spoke with four people who used the service. They said the staff "are very welcoming" and "the staff are good". People who used the service felt that the registered care provider explained the treatment options well and the staff were friendly and approachable. People using the service told us they were happy to come to the dental practice and the staff were nice to them and that the facilities were good.
