16th October 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made
We did not speak to people who used the service. This was a follow up inspection to check on two compliance actions from a previous inspection. We found that staff were clear about how to report any safeguarding concerns relating to children and vulnerable adults. We also found that there was more awareness of the arrangements to ensure that incidents affecting the practice were reported to us.
4th July 2013 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with five people who used the practice. They made positive comments about the practice and the treatment they had received. One person said, "I can't fault it". Another person described the practice as "very efficient". Generally people told us that the staff were polite and respectful to them. We found that people were able to give their views about the service they had received. People told us how they had their dental treatment explained to them and records that we looked at showed this. Staff had received training to protect children and vulnerable adults from the risk of abuse. However we found a lack of understanding of how to report safeguarding concerns. Therefore people may have been left at risk if any concerns were not reported promptly. Everyone we spoke to said that the practice environment was clean when they visited. We found that there were effective procedures in use for the decontamination of dental instruments. We also found that quality monitoring systems were in place that included seeking the views of people using the service. We had not been informed about an incident in March 2013 which prevented the practice from providing a service to people. As the regulator of the service we should have been informed so that we could take any action if necessary.
