We visited the Dosthill Valley dental practice on Monday 7 January 2013. We met with a dentist, the practice manager and a dental nurse. Records seen showed that people had been involved in decisions regarding their treatment. We spoke with six people who used this dental practice. We were told that the dentist explained and told them what they needed to know before they agreed to any treatment.

We were shown patient records which clearly demonstrated that thorough examinations were undertaken. People told us, "You get a full examination of your mouth." "I have sensitive gums and they gave me advice regarding the best toothpaste to use". "They give you lots of information on how to look after your teeth".

We saw that emergency medication and equipment was available and ready for use. Staff had received training to manage emergency situations.

The dental practice was clean and clutter free on the day of our visit. Records showed the cleaning regimes followed by dental nurses and the cleaning staff. Decontamination practices ensured that used dental equipment was suitably cleaned and sterilised.

Staff records showed that staff received regular training to enable them to keep up to date with current working practices. Appraisal and regular staff meetings helped to ensure that staff received support to be able to do their job.

Satisfaction survey results showed that a majority of people were "very satisfied" with the service provided at this dental practice.
