15th April 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

During this inspection we spoke with two staff and the practice manager.

We found that the manager and provider had taken appropriate steps to make the required improvements which were identified as a result of our last inspection.

We found that people were protected from the risk of abuse, because the staff were aware of the signs of abuse and the local reporting procedures.

We saw that appropriate and effective arrangements were in place to ensure the safe storage and disposal of emergency medicines.

We saw that the manager had effective systems in place to regularly assess and monitor the quality of the service. We also saw that action was taken to improve the quality of the service where needed.

29th November 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People told us that they were given choices regarding their treatment and that they understood their proposed treatment. One person said, “They always explain everything they are doing”. We saw that people received written and verbal information about how to care for their teeth and braces and people confirmed that this was done in a way that made it easily understood.

People we spoke with told us they were happy with the care and treatment they or their relatives received. Comments included: “It’s great here, the staff are really nice” and “The staff are very good with X”. We saw that people were cared for and treated by staff who had the appropriate knowledge and skills.

Some staff had received training on how to recognise and respond to suspected abuse, however, management were not aware of the local procedures in place to report suspected abuse in both children and adults. This meant that there may be a delay in responding appropriately to suspected abuse.

We saw that effective methods were not in place to ensure that emergency medicines were stored, monitored and disposed of appropriately. This meant that some medicines may not be effective or safe if used in an emergency.

We saw little evidence that the views of people using the service were formally sought and used to improve the service.
