13th February 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made
We visited Ainsdale Dental Practice to review our findings of non-compliance in one outcome at our inspection in December 2013. At this inspection we spoke with the Clinical Coordinator about the changes that had been made since the last inspection in December 2013. We looked at staff records and saw evidence appraisals had taken place. We spoke with two staff who told us about their appraisals.
3rd December 2013 - During a routine inspection
During the inspection we spoke with three patients who were attending the dental practice to gain their views about the service they received. Patients told us the dentists always explained the treatment. They told us, "The surgery is very good", "Always very clean", "You always go in for your appointment on time" and "There’s no problem getting an appointment when you need one." Patients said the staff made sure they received sufficient information about their treatment options, so they were able to make informed decisions about what treatments were best for them. A patient told us they knew what treatment they were having and everything had been explained to them. Another patient told us the staff were reassuring and did their best to relieve any anxiety they had about their treatment. We found the dental practice to be clean and tidy. Staff were working in accordance with infection control policies and procedures to prevent, detect and control the spread of infection. Staff had access to training. This meant they had the skills, knowledge and expertise to provide care and treatment to patients safely. Staff interviewed told us they had access to good training for their ‘continuous professional development’ (CPD) they had to complete to keep their (dental nurse) registration current. They told us everyone worked well as a team and they could go to the dentists with any issues they had. However they did not receive regular supervision or appraisals. Systems were in place to assess the monitor the quality of the service provided at the dental practice to ensure patients received safe, effective treatment.
23rd January 2012 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with people using this service on the day of our visit. They told us that they were pleased with the care and treatment, that the staff were friendly and treated them with respect. They told us the clinic was clean and easy to access and that their privacy was maintained.
